Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt #70: ME!

ME:  The Blog Administrator

The Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt theme for this week is a photograph of the blog administrator.  Of course, that's Mom 'cuz we don't have thumbs an' administratin' is kinda difficult if you're digitally-challenged.

Mom wasn't thrilled with the theme this week, but she did clear us to post this picture of her relaxin' with Grandma (who's wearin' the dippy red bucket hat) eatin' "s'mores" at a beach picnic.  You might recognize Loew's Coronado Beach Resort's palm trees in the background if you've ever been to Silver Strand State Beach an' walked through the under-the-highway tunnel to get to the "bay" side where there are picnic facilities.

During the fall ... before the clocks get changed an' it starts getting dark earlier, Mom likes to go for afterschool picnics at the beach with our grandparents.  They roast hot dogs usin' a paper burning grill (all of the junk mail gets toasted).  The weather is usually gorgeous an' there's no fee to enter the grounds like there is in the spring an' summer.  It's quite a bargain an' it's a fun way to have dinner, too.

Thursday Thirteen ... Groaners!

Mom's tired an' a little bit stressed ('cuz there are only ten school days left), so we're gonna tell some really bad elementary school-type jokes for this week's Thursday Thirteen.  Feel free to groan as often an' as much as you'd like.  Just remember that levity is a beautiful thing ...

Easy on Sunday ... Uncle Jerry edition

As you know, our furry own Uncle Jerry is visitin' us from Seattle this weekend.  He arrived late Wednesday evening an' we've been runnin' him ragged ever since.

After a hearty breakfast at Denny's, Grandma an' Grandad took him to the San Diego Zoo for lunch at Albert's Restaurant on Thursday afternoon an' then he accompanied Mom to Disneyland as a guest chaperone for GradNite.  Prior to boarding the buses, they had Pizza Hut pizza with pepperoni and jalapeƱos (a local specialty).

On Friday, they all had after-Disney breakfast at IHOP, took naps, and then had Mexican food at San Marcos Restaurant.  Uncle James an' Lori even joined 'em there for dinner.

Saturday included breakfast at Jalisco's an' lunch at Boomerang's Gourmet Burger Joint ... YUMMO!

Today was breakfast at D.Z. Akin's (a local landmark and authentic Jewish Delicatessen) with a trip to the Wild Animal Park , a tour on the new bus an' a journey 400 feet up above the park in a hot air balloon!  An' even better:  In-n-Out Burger for lunch.

Grandad an' Jerry are tired ... Mom snapped this photo of their nap.

In a couple of hours, they'll be heading to King's Fish House for soft-shell crabs, salmon, and oysters (Mom'll have fish an' chips or some coconut shrimp 'cuz she really doesn't like fishy furry much ... stupid Mom).

Uncle Jer flies back to Seattle tomorrow afternoon after havin' lunch with us at Rubios, Home of the Fish Taco.

He might need a week of rest to recuperate from his mini "vacation" ... Whewww!

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt #69: SHOES!

SHOES

The Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt theme for this week is SHOES!

We're postin' a photo that we've shown before for this week's theme.

As you know, Mom is a fan of shoes an' has a whole lot of them stored in our den.  Mom's shoes live in plastic boxes an' are stacked on the shelves of a six foot bookshelf.  Mom can see through the plastic of the boxes to know which shoes are on which shelf.  This storage unit keeps the shoes neat an' organized ... an' out of Cocoa Puff's reach (he's not particularly nice to shoes).

Our dear friend, Bonnie Underfoot, has crossed the Rainbow Bridge ... We'll miss her always as she was one of our first furriends in the Cat Blogosphere. Our purrs an' purrayers go out to Victor Tabbycat an' his fambly.

Sleepy Sunday: Lucky Charmz's computer chair

Charmee likes to sleep in the "den" in Mom's computer chair.

It's a furry nice chair from Bassett an' Mom likes ours so much that she bought an identical one for school so that she can work comfortably at her desk.

Since the weather in San Diego has been commensurate with the surface of the sun, we're just gonna rest a bit ...

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt #68: CANDY!

CANDY

The Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt theme for this week is CANDY!  Yummo!

We could take a picture of the lady who lives across the street, 'cuz her name is
Candy ...

But we're gonna show Mom's candy masheen instead.

Mom bought this candy masheen a whole bunch of Easters ago at a K-Mart in Chula Vista. It sat empty for the longest time 'cuz Mom doesn't eat little pieces of candy like jelly beans or Nerds. She likes chocolate candy like Hershey's Kisses, but they don't come out of the little dispenser slot 'cuz they're too big.

She finally decided to fill it with Kisses anyway 'cuz ... well ... 'cuz she wanted to keep us away from her stash. We don't want to EAT her candies, we just like to sniff them.

If you can see them, you'll notice Hershey's Dark Chocolate Raspberry and Hershey's Hot Cocoa Kisses are nestled inside the "head" of the bunny.

When you remove his ears, you can take out a piece of candy to eat.

What is the nearest big city to your home?

Los Angeles is about 120 miles up the I-5 from my house depending on the amount of Caltrans construction/renovation going on.

Soup
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how well do you keep secrets?

I am a consummate secret-keeper. Confidences will go with me to the grave. I give myself a 10 plus.

Salad
Describe your hair (color, texture, length).

A little longer than chin-length, dark ash blonde neutral (it’s more like light-ish brown), very fine and very straight; bobbed with bangs.

Main Course
What kind of driver are you?  Courteous?  Aggressive?  Slow?

Talented. I’m a very good driver (not in the "Rainman" sense) with highly developed skills. I drive a small black Honda five-speed. I follow nearly all of the traffic rules except speed limit; I speed all the time.

Dessert
When was the last time you had a really bad week?

My weeks have been uneven since I started teaching eighteen years ago. My really bad week was May 22nd - 28th, 2006: That was when I got mugged.  The anniversary of that event is next week, but I'm doing my very best to put it into the past.

Thursday Thirteen ... Funnies from Aunt Montie!

Our Aunt Montie who lives in a snowy part of Washington State, likes to send us funny photos now an' again just to remind us of how much she loves an' misses us. This Thursday Thirteen is one of those special emails. Enjoy!

Life is short!
Break the rules!
Forgive quickly!
Love truly,
Laugh uncontrollably,
And never regret anything that made you smile.

1. Peaceful (Awww ... Isn't the little woofie a cutie?)

2. "Hi! Will you be my friends?!?"  (This little feline looks a whole lot like our furry own Sparky Fuzzypants!)

3. Mad skills ...  (Like we've said many, many times:  Pugs ROCK!  Who else could pee UP a tree?)

4. "I swear!  A big Doberman busted in and just tore the place up...."  (Uh, huh ... A likely story, little woofies!)

5. Par-tay, Par-tay, Par-tay!  (I dunno 'bout that ... The 'bean litter box room ISN'T a safe place to play!  Especially 'round the blue watery chair ... A kitty could get WET!)

6. "Uh, cat? What cat?"  (Um ... That little woofie isn't too bright an' his buns aren't furry sensitive 'cuz that kitty's gotta be puttin' the bitey on him ... ).

7. There's no explaining LOVE.  (Yes there is!  It's called "I'm cold an' the woofie is comfy"!)

8. "Helloooooooo" ... (Oh, good grief!  It's a sniff, little woofie!  Not a proctology exam!)

9. How to tell when it's time to make your kids sleep in their own bed ...  (Oh, yeah ... Can't get more comfy than a king-sized kitty bed made o' kitties!)

10. "Ahhh!  The fresh, relaxing aroma of feet ..."  (I've gotta agree with this one ... I've got a thing for Mom's shoes!).

11. "Harlem Globetrotters, here I come" ... (When you've gotta look at cat television, you've gotta look!).

12. The good thing about working here:  If you need assistance smiling, there's always help!  (Oh, yucky!  Slobbery woofies are yucky!).

13. "Aggghhhh! Someone dial 911!  I'm being mauled by a troll!"  (I've gotta agree:  Sticky 'beans are nearly as yucky as slobbery woofies!).

Manic Monday: The Doodle Challenge for CFHF!

Our very dear friend Not the Mama is having a very special Manic Monday today! NTM says:

On May 12th: Doodle Week Fun Fund Raiser - for every blog that posts a doodle with a cat in it and leaves their link at It's A Blog Eat Blog World, we will donate 50¢ to Cat Friends Helping Friends!

All you have to do is Doodle & Link!

ManCat Monday: The things we'll do for HAM!

Okay ...

Yesterday was Mothers' Day an' we got to have HAM for dinner (in addition to a can of Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys Tuscan Turkey split five ways).

In exchange for our culinary bounty, Mom insisted that one of us try on the new fashions that she bought at Target.

Being the youngest, Charmee lost the drawing of the straws an' had to model for Mom ... hee, hee ...

Here's Lucky Charmz modelling an Alaskan King Crab hat with a sailor scarf ... What you can't see is the cute navy blue anchor on the back of his scarf.  It's furry nautical!

Then, Mom dressed Charmee up as a fishy!  Doesn't he look yummy ... uh, I mean cute?

Happy Mothers' Day to efurry momma!

We're taking this opportunity to wish efurry momma a Happy Mothers' Day!

We hope that you got breakfast-in-bed, a box of chocolates, some pretty flowers, an' a furry special dinner in your honor.
Mom helped us to do some special stuff for Grandma today ...

1.  We got her some flowers from 1-800-Flowers.

2.  We sponsored a sweet Tuxie girlie named Jessica at Best Friends.

3.  We got some sugar-free peanut brittle from See's Candies ('cuz G-ma LOVES it).

4.  We got a kitty cat garden flag for hanging off of Grandma's porch.  It came from the Animal Rescue Site.

5.  We bought G-ma a Misto for sprayin' olive oil on stuff (like Puffy's favorite asparagus).

And Mom got Grandma a gift card for Red Lobster ... yum.

HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY, MOMMAS!

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt #67: Our Choice!

PHOTO OF OUR CHOICE

The Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt theme for this week is A PHOTO OF OUR CHOICE IN A TOPIC OF OUR CHOICE.

Since this week we get to choose ANYTHING WE WANT as our Photo Hunters' snap-shot, we've chosen this photo taken last year at
Sea World San Diego.

Here's the back story ...

When Mom was a "Teacher of the Year" finalist in 2006, part of her glamorous prize pack of swag was a pair of tickets to visit Sea World.

Mom has been dozens of times, so she gave the tickets to our grandma as a part of last year's Mother's Day present so that she and grandad could see the animals an' have bratwurst at the Anheuser Busch restaurant (where grandad likes to sip the beers an' grandma watches the Clydesdale horsies ... especially the long-leggedy baby ones who bounce all around the meadow an' paddock).

While they were at Sea World, grandma an' grandad took photos of the flamingoes an' stopped by Mango Joe's to snap a quick pick of this righteous cow in his cowabunga surfing gear.

Skeezix the Cat would likely LOVE his giant magenta Rayban Wayfarers ... Although I prefer his funky, flowered surfer shorts!

If you get a chance to visit San Diego, plan a day trip to our Sea World Adventure Park.  Make sure that you have a frozen lemonade an' visit the beluga whales ... but most of all, take a cruise in one of those sky buckets out over the water.  It's beautiful and especially refreshing when it's hot!

1. The _wallet that I gave my mother_ had an extra secret ingredient; it was _holding some money as one should never give a wallet or purse EMPTY_!

2. _The smell of cigarettes being smoked by under-aged boys wafted_ through my window.  So I shut the window, sprayed some OUST, and went about my business.

3. Right now, I need _a vacation? More like I need a nap and something to eat_.

4. _NOWHERE_ is where I went Thursday night; it was _okay, I guess_.

5. Why does _fashion_ hurt so much?

6. All I can think of is the _end of the school year. I’m currently running Mach-10 with my hair on fire_.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to _NOT having to chaperone the prom tonight (yay!)_, tomorrow my plans include _waiting for my Mom’s Mother’s Day flowers to arrive from 1-800 Flowers.com_ and Sunday, I want to _have some ham_!

When someone smiles at you, do you smile back?

Usually. It depends on the circumstances and my mood at the moment. I ALWAYS smile at animals like cats and dogs.

Soup
Describe the flooring in your home.  Do you have carpet, hardwood, vinyl, a mix?

The flooring in my house can be described in one word: YUCK. What used to be gorgeous emerald green cut-loop carpet of the highest quality is now ... yuck. I’m hoping to put in a hardwood or Bellawood floor in the next six months or so. Wish me luck?

Salad
Write a sentence with only 5 words, but all of the words have to start with the first letter of your first name.

Oh, you’ve got to be kidding. My name is Jessica and “j” words aren’t plentiful ...

Joking jocularly, jesters juggled Juju-bees.

There ... I did it.  It's a good thing that I make my living with words or I'd have been up a creek.

Main Course
Do you know anyone whose life has been touched by adoption?

Yep. Kimo an’ Sabi’s family was made all the better with the adoption of their “blurpy girl” Kiera back around Christmastime. From what I’ve seen, they couldn’t be happier.

Additionally, my maternal grandfather was adopted as an infant back in 1918.

Dessert
Name 2 blue things.

Gosh ... What ISN’T blue these days. Um ... two things ...

My eyes are blue (cornflower).
My underwear are blue (turquoise).
